Great Britain is made up of three countries, namely: England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland is also a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The Republic of Ireland is a separate country, although you can still find accommodation in Ireland on this site.
Each country comprises multiple regions, known as ‘Counties’. In days gone by, counties were often known as ‘Shires’, and many counties still have ‘shire’ as part of their name. London is slightly different, though, because it is a large city, or a conurbation, which is made up of multiple ‘Boroughs’.
To view a complete accommodation guide on any county or borough, please click on it in the list below. Not all of these are complete as yet, so please bear with us as the content is updated.
The way the regions of Britain are broken down into counties mirrors the way they are also categorised in many other countries. However, there are many further words related to areas within any given country. We have states, districts, provinces, as well as regions, lands kingdoms, heartlands, territories and Emirates.
Over time we plan to expand this article to cover the population of each county, as well as events happening, the culture and divisions with each county as well as any government sanctioned rules and related logo if one exists. More often this will be a flag rather than a logo. Right now this content is in English only, but as demand seems to coming from other areas we plan to have all information translated soon. We will also include an interactive map highlighting borders and boundaries
