Home

Baumber Park is a spacious, elegant farmhouse on a working farm. The original house, seen best from the back, dates from about 1680 but was much enlarged in the 19th century to form the present imposing family home. The guest rooms have large bay windows giving excellent views over the garden and farmland and are furnished with antique furniture in keeping with the house. The gardens, about an acre in extent and largely created by the Harrisons, are a riot of colour in the summer months. There is a grass tennis court and a large wildlife pond at the bottom of the lawn. The kitchen garden grows most of the fruit and vegetables used in the house. There are also the usual livestock associated with a traditional farm - horses, cats and dogs.

At the bottom of the garden are the chickens - a variety of colours and breeds, some of them rare, and laying eggs ranging from china blue to chocolate brown and much enjoyed for breakfast.

The house is surrounded by parkland in which cows and calves graze all summer. Guests may be lucky enough to see calves being born between January and April, or newborn lambs during April. The farm, though contemporary and well up to date, is run with much thought given to the importance of conservation, wildlife and the natural environment.
