Welcome to Barncastle, a large, recently converted Cotswold stone barn nestling in the beautiful Painswick valley built on the site of a Medieval Castle, owning some outstanding countryside views over the Cotswolds.

This gorgeous holiday home is close to the lovely Cotswold towns of Painswick and Stroud and within a short distance of nearby Historic Gloucester, with its excellent transport links and beautiful Cathedral, and Regency Cheltenham with its wonderful restaurants, shopping and Racing.

By Car: Exit the M5 at junction 12, onto the B4008 for Stonehouse.

Turn left at Little Haresfield.

After 50 yards turn left to Haresfield/Brookthorpe.

Continue to T-junction, then turn right. Follow this road for 2 miles to Brookthorpe.

At T-junction turn right onto A4173 for Stroud.

Climb hill for 2 miles to Edge, and after Edgemoor Inn take second turn on left into Wragg Castle Lane.

Barncastle is located on the right hand side, before Wragg Castle Farm.

By Train: Stroud Station - 2 miles
Gloucester Station - 5 miles

By Plane: Bristol Airport

Barncastle will sleep 10 comfortably, with cot and highchair available on request. There is ample parking at the front of the property. The barn is accessed through either the Oak door to the left, or the large glass doors in the centre.

Ground Floor

  • Comprising of a small sitting room with Oak Flooring and French Doors leading outside. Furnished with double bed, wardrobe, chest of draws, a comfortable sofabed and extra seating.
  • Bedroom with Oak Floor furnished in a classical style, with a double bed, chest of drawers and wardrobe.
    Bedroom with two single beds, chest of drawers and wardrobe.
  • Two bathrooms, each with shower, basin and WC.
  • The beautiful Dining Hall can be observed from a breathtaking Oak gallery. The Hall is floored with Oak and boasts a large Cotswold stone Inglenook Fireplace. There is a dining table and chairs to seat 10.
  • The beautiful, fully-fitted kitchen has a traditional stone floor and includes large American-style fridge, range cooker and dishwasher.
  • Utility Room with washing machine and tumble dryer.

  • Spacious, beamed galleried living room with open fire, oak floor and sofa-bed (for +2).
  • Bedroom with king-size bed and ensuite, with freestanding clawfoot bath, basin and WC.
  • Bedroom with classical style double bed.
  • Second bathroom with shower, bath, basin and WC.

  • Barncastle has 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and will sleep 10 comfortably.

      BERKELEY CASTLE - excellently preserved castle, very much a family hope but still with a flavour of its days as a Normam fortress. Impressive paintings, furnishings and silver. Find old keep and Great Hall and the dungeon where Edward II was murdered in 1327.

      BIBURY and TROUT FARM - one of the most popular villages in the area with lovely golden streamside houses owned by NT built along the side of the River Coln. Bibury Trout Farm is a long-established working farm breeding rainbow trout in forty ponds and tanks. You can feed the fish or try to catch your own. 01285 740215

      BIRDWOOD - working farm producing double and single Gloucester cheese. You can normally watch them make it on Tuesday and Thursday. Ask about home-cured bacon and sausages. 01452 750225

      CATTLE COUNTRY - adventure park with several nail-biting drop slides, aerial slide and masses of indoor and outdoor playground activities. The children will be entertained for hours. Parents can simply chill out and enjoy a coffee or snack in the restaurant or visit the American bison among other things. 01453 810510

      CLEARWELL CAVES - a good place to spend an hour or so rather than a whole day, these atmospheric caverns are great for children who like to be spoked and don't mind going underground. Find your own way around the nine caverns, reckoned to be some of the oldest underground workings in Britain. 01594 832535
