CAIRNGORMS NATIONAL PARK

NATIONAL PARKS & AONB'S IN GRANTOWN-ON-SPEY, HIGHLANDS

Cairngorms National Park 01 Cairngorms National Park 02 Cairngorms National Park 03 Cairngorms National Park 04
WEBSITE
The Cairngorms was made a National Park in September 2003 because it is a unique and special place that needs to be cared for - both for the wildlife and countryside it contains and for the people that live in it, manage it and visit it. It is Britain's largest national Park.

The Cairngorms National Park has the largest area of arctic mountain landscape in the UK at its heart, with diverse communities around it. It is home to 17,000 people and 25% of Britain's threatened birds, animals, and plants. It includes moorlands, forests, rivers, lochs and glens.

The Cairngorms National Park Authority is also the Access Authority for the whole of the Cairngorms National Park area. The Park Authority has a duty to uphold the right of access in the Park, to establish a network of core paths and to set up a Local Access Forum.

The Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 gives everyone statutory access rights to most land and inland water but people only have these rights if they exercise them responsibly by respecting the privacy, safety and livelihoods of others, as well as caring for the environment.
