BUNKHOUSE MID WALES
HOSTEL IN RHAYADER, POWYS
The Mid Wales Bunkhouse, Tipi and Camping is located at Woodhouse Farm, midway between Rhayader and Llanidloes, close to the villages of St. Harmon and Pant Y Dwr. As our name suggests we are right in the very centre of Wales. The surrounding countryside is splendidly wild. Be it summer or winter it can be explored by bike, on foot, or even on horseback or by canoe, with each season offering its own challenges. In winter weather even cross country skiing is a possibility.
We are close to the Elan and Wye Valleys, the Trans Cambrian Trail and Glyndwrs Way. The Lon Las Cymru cycle route is also close by, and on our website you will find a suggested, and we believe more interesting alternative route, taking you right past the door. The Radnorshire Ring, regional cycle route 25, also passes closeby, and this can easily form part of a circuit across Wales from East to West.
Special midweek offers or longer stay specials are available.
Bunkhouse: The bunkhouse will sleep a maximum of twenty people and is available for groups or individuals, either self catering, or we can cater for you if booked beforehand. Upstairs is a dormitory sleeping up to 14 people and downstairs is a family room sleeping up to 6 with disabled access. The dormitory can be split into 4 separate areas with curtains. There is also a fully equipped kitchen, washing and drying room, common / dining room and of course toilets and showers. As most of our guests bring their own sleeping bags bedding is not included in the price, but duvets are available on request for a small extra charge. The bunkhouse is heated in winter. Outside there is a covered verandah and garden, along with a barbeque and charcoal pizza oven.
Camping & Caravanning: The Site is on level, well draining grass, with five individual pitches, each with full electric hook up facilities. These are large with plenty of space for modern family tents. Toilet, shower and washing up facilities are available in the bunkhouse annexe and there is a chemical toilet disposal point, along with a fresh water supply. We aim to keep the site open throughout the year, but please check with us in advance if you are planning to visit outside of the main season. Adjacent to this is a field which is available for tents, rallies and other events during the summer months. Our tipi is sited adjacent and can make the ideal focal point for your group event,or if you fancy something a little different it will sleep up to 8 people. The barbeque is available for groups on request, or if you prefer we can arrange things for you.
Tipi: Our tipi is secluded and quiet, looking out towards the small River Marteg, but several yards from it, adjacent to the camping site and sheltered by a small copse of trees. For a holiday stay it will provide a unique but basic style of accommodation along with the opportunity to get away from it all in the most beautiful of surroundings. It will sleep up to eight people, and you can either cater for yourselves cooking on the chiminiere in the tipi or barbeque outside. A double burner camping gas stove is also available. Alternatively we can cater for you. The tipi is equipped with rugs, throws and cushions to make it homely but beds and bedding are not included.
Whilst our accommodation is let on a self catering basis we are also able to offer meals, but these do need to be booked in advance. Evening meal usually consists of a substantial set 2 course meal. We can offer a vegetarian alternative, but again need to know beforehand. At weekends we are generally able to offer a full English breakfast, and during the week a self service continental style breakfast is available. Packed lunches are also available. Please contact us for prices. Due to the nature of the accommodation we regret that we are unable to accept dogs in the bunkhouse or tipi.
