A tournament of two competitions, that takes place in October at St. Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie courses and features professional and amateur players on three different links courses, playing over four days. In one competition, each of the one hundred and sixty eight professional players, teams up with an amateur who has a recognised handicap of 18 or better. Ladies must have a handicap of 24 or better. The second competition is for professionals. After three rounds the leading sixty professionals are joined by the top twenty teams in the final round on the St. Andrews Old Course.

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championships is one of the major tournaments of the golfing season. One of the major reasons for its popularity is the combination of amateur and professional golfers and it brings together an international set of players both professional and amateur and many of the amateur players are famous celebrities.

Road travel to St Andrews from Edinburgh is via the A90 over the Forth Bridge and then take the M90 to junction 7 and the A91 following the signs. From Glasgow, take the M8, then the A80, join the M80 at junction 6 and head north to Junction 7. Take the A91 and follow the signs. Post code for Sat Nav is KY16 9SF. For train travellers, alight at Leuchars Railway Station and take a taxi or bus to the course which is a short ride away.
