Royal Ascot

Held at Ascot Racecourse, Royal Ascot is the highlight of the racecourse year and is a major event in the British social calendar. There are 16 races over the 5 days with over £3,000,000 of prize money.

What people wear is covered by the press more than the racing itself. Ladies Day, on Thursday, is a chance for the ladies to show off their attire but a strict dress code applies with rules on dress length and a hat or facinator must be worn. The men must wear a black or grey morning suit with a top hat.

The Royal Ascot Cup race takes place on Ladies Day The event is attended each year by the Queen and members of the Royal Family. It was founded in 1711 by Queen Anne. There are three enclosures for spectators at Ascot and the most prestigious is the Royal Enclosure where entrants are by special invitation only, with high security in force. Over three thousand people attend the event each year during the Royal Ascot week.
