The Isle of Wight Festival

The Isle of Wight Festival takes place every year and is a three day event, held in the second week of June. Started in 1968 it lapsed in 1970 but was revived in 2002 and has been held annually ever since. The original concerts attracted huge crowds, and the 1970 festival was estimated to be as large as 250,000 people, which was more than attended Woodstock.

Among the star at that concert were, Jimi Hendrix, The Moody Blues, The Who, Jethro Tull, Miles Davies, Emerson Lake & Palmer and many other who had appeared days earlier at Woodstock. The size of the 1970 crowd caused the demise of the festival, as Parliament passed legislation in advance of the 1971 Festival to prevent gatherings of more that 5,000 people on the Isle of Wight without a special licence.

The revived Festival in 2002 took place at Seaclose Park, in Newport and has been held there each year since. The event is promoted by Solo Music Agency.
