T in the Park
Now a major annual music festival, the original T in the Park was held in 1994 and has taken place every year since. The âTâ is there to represent its sponsor, the brewery company Tennets. It started as a two day event but since 2007 it has been extended to cover a three day period. The first two concerts were held in Strathclyde Park, next to the River Clyde between Hamilton and Motherwell but the size of the event caused it to be moved to its current venue at Balado, a park and former airfield within the Perth and Kinross area. The venue has seven stages for music, a large camping area for the event visitors, as well as stall, shops and entertainment attractions. In recent years, the festival has shared much of its lineup with the event Oxegen, which takes place on the same weekend in County Kildare, Ireland. Artists appear at T in the Park one day and Oxegen the next, or vice versa. The annual line up includes many of the leading groups and artists and tickets sell out very quickly, often in under two hours. The festival is promoted by Big Day Out.
