With a population of 101,546, the county covers 710 square miles (1,837 sq km). The county town is Waterford.

Geography

The landscape is largely hilly but there are lowlands in the east. The major rivers are the Blackwater, the Bride, and the Suir.

Industry

Dairy, beef and sheep are important. Fishing, food processing, tanning, toys, and glassmaking are other industries.

History

Waterford constantly rebelled against English rule and suffered badly in the latter part of the 16th century during the revolt of the Earls of Desmond.
