Vale of Glamorgan (Welsh: Bro Morgannwg)

Population is around 120,000 and the area is 128 square miles, (335 km²). 16%
of the population speak Welsh.
Geography
The district borders Cardiff, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Bridgend to the north, and the
Bristol Channel to the south. The main town and largest centre of population is
Barry. A large proportion of the population inhabits villages, hamlets and individual
farms. The Vale of Glamorgan is an exceptionally rich agricultural area in the southern
part of Glamorgan, Wales. It has a rugged coastline, from Penarth Head in the east
to Ogmore in the west. but its rolling countryside is quite untypical of Wales as
a whole.
History
It has been a county borough since 1996, previously being part of South Glamorgan.
Industry
The Vale of Glamorgan was the scenne of heavy coal mining and industrial manufacture.
These industries have now been replaced with Tourism, computer software companies
and hi-tech industries.
