The county town is Tipperary. The county is divided into North Riding and South
Riding.
In Tipperary there are the popular towns of Roscrea,

Geography
The region is part of the central plain of Ireland, but also contains the Knockmealdown,
Galtee, Arra, and Silvermine mountain ranges. The major rivers are the Suir and
tributaries of the Shannon.
Industry
The fertile region, known as the Golden Vale, is one of the richest agricultural
areas in Ireland. Dairy and cattle farming are the principal agricultural products.
Other industries are slate quarrying and the manufacture of meal and flour.
History
The county was ruled by the powerful Earls of Ormonde. Antiquarian remains are found
in Tipperary, particularly around Cashel.
