North Lanarkshire borders onto City of Glasgow, Falkirk, East Dunbartonshire and
South Lanarkshire. The council covers parts of the traditional counties of Lanarkshire,
Dunbartonshire, and Stirlingshire. The populations around 332,000 and covers an
area of 470 square kilometres.
Geography
North Lanarkshire extends southwards from the Kilsyth Hills to the River Clyde.
It is bounded by South Lanarkshire, Glasgow, Falkirk, East Dunbartonshire, Stirling
and West Lothian and its chief towns are Airdrie, Coatbridge, Cumbernauld, Kilsyth,
Motherwell, Shotts and Wishaw.
Industry
Formerly with coal mining, engineering and steel industries, its modern industries
are linked to the rest of Europe via the Eurocentral freight facility at Mossend.
