Geography

Leitrim is divided into two parts by Lough Allen. It is mountainous in the northern part and the southern part is level.

Industry

Agriculture, mainly potatoes and oats are grown. Industries include textiles, electrical goods, and automotive parts. During the 20th century the population declined by more than 100,000 as people left the area for the more prosperous east of Ireland.
