Galway has a population of 209,077 and covers an area of 2,293 square miles (6,148 sq km). The county town is Galway.

In Galway there are the popular towns of Gort, Ballinasloe, Galway City and Loughrea.

Geography

Lough Corrib divides the county into two. The mountains of Connemara lie to the west and to the east stretches a rolling plain, partially covered with bogs. The major rivers are the Shannon, the Clare, the Clarinbridge and the Dunkelin. The shoreline is irregular, and there many islands lie off the coat, the largest of which are the Aran Islands off the mouth of Galway Bay.

Industry

The main industries are Tourism, agriculture and fishing. Marble is quarried, and some light manufacturing has developed.
