Has an area of 67 square miles (175 sq. Km) and a population of around 109,000.
It borders onto West Dunbartonshire, the City of Glasgow, Stirling, and North Lanarkshire.
The administrative town is Kirkintilloch.
Geography
East Dunbartonshire extends over an area of 172 sq. km (66 sq. miles) between Glasgow
and the Campsie Fells.The low-lying lands to the south give way dramatically to
the Campsie Fells in the north. The highest point is Earl's Seat (1,896 feet/578
metres). The main river is the River Kelvin.
Industry
Over 75 per cent of the land is given over to farming, the remainder largely being
urban.
History
It was created in 1996 from two districts of Strathclyde region. Between 1975 and
1996 it comprised the districts of Strathkelvin and Bearsden and Milngavie in Strathclyde
Region.
