The hilly landscape, rising to more than 2,000 feet (610 metres) in the south, is devoted largely to grazing. Farming (potatoes, beef and dairy cattle) is important to the local economy. Pottery and linen are manufactured and limestone and sandstone are quarried. It is a popular tourist area.
