More and more people are going camping as an alternative to bed and breakfast or self catering which have become too expensive for many young families. The range of facilities available at the camping sites varies from basic to luxurious but many more sites now provide very good camping facilities. The Tourist Board has agreed a scheme based on star ratings, that should give a good indication of the facilities available and the quality if the camping site. Bear in mind that these grading schemes are expensive and that many very good sites have declined to take part in the grading scheme.

You should expect to find toilet and wash facilities to a clean standard at any of these sites although, you can go camping on farmland with the approval of the owner but there will be no facilities available. The freedom to camp wherever you wish may seem an attractive proposition but if you want any comfort you will be far better camping at an established site. Rates are generally based on a nightly fee with additional charges for pets and various forms of camping equipment. Always check the costs before you use a site and make sure you are aware of the costs involved. Camping can be a very inexpensive and enjoyable way to see Britain.
