Port Issac on the coast of Cornwall, is a remarkable town and has been used as the film set for the television series Doc Martin starring Marin Clunes as the irritable Doc Martin. Port Issac was used as the setting for the fictional village of Portwenn and fans of the series will recognise many of the street and shops that appear in the various episodes.
TV fame apart, Port Issac is a wonderful little Cornish fishing village with narrow steep streets and old fisherman’s cottages and small independent shops. It is very popular holiday destination. Cars and some areas of Port Issac do not get on well so be prepared to have fun if you want to drive in the village. Better by far to park well away from the centre and walk. It’s a very small village and nowhere is far from the car parks on the outskirts. Some properties that offer self catering in Port Issac do have their own parking arrangements but it is worth checking that these exist if you need to have your car close by. Given the lake of traffic in the village, this makes Port Issac a great place for a family holiday in Cornwall as there are little or no problems with traffic as there is ain other popular destinations.
As with many Cornish fishing villages, Port Issac can be a very busy place in the main holiday season, with many day trippers coming to savour its charms and facilities.
