UK Holidays For Families
21 July 2011
In the current financial climate, many people are having to make sacrifices, and this sometimes means a compromise on their annual family holiday. Instead of jetting off abroad, holidays in Britain are becoming very popular with families, and whatever kind of break you are looking for, you’re sure to find something in the UK to satisfy your needs.
If you have young children, holidays in Britain are a good alternative to flights and long periods of waiting around in airports! Travelling with little ones can mean a large amount of luggage – as well as the essential clothes and toiletries, children may need medicines and a range of toys to keep them busy; if you’ll be hitting the beach you’ll need the prerequisite buckets, spades, blankets and pop up shelters for younger children. Taking all of this abroad isn’t always possible, but on holidays in Britain you can load up the car with the kids and everything that you’ll need for your time away! Travelling in a car with young children is also much easier – you can line up a selection of music, stories and small toys to keep them amused until you reach your destination.
Holidays in Britain can take almost any form you like. You could recreate old memories and take a family trip to the beach, spending your days making sandcastles and jumping the waves, with evenings on the promenade or at the fun fair. Children can be kept entertained at holiday parks, or you could opt for a cottage or caravan if you prefer.
Holidays in Britain don’t necessarily need to centre around the beach. For a break with a twist, you could take your family on a narrow boat holiday! Children will love being by the water and seeing how the boat is operated, and it is a good way to tour through an area and see different places every day. You could get the children interested in the wildlife that they can see, and you could even introduce older children to fishing if this is permitted.
For some real family bonding time, camping can be a great holiday option and it is often the cheapest holiday type. If you are camping with children, you’ll need to look for a campsite with good facilities – look for toilets, showers and changing facilities. Most campsites accept small barbecues, so make sure you pack lots of burgers and marshmallows – children will love toasting them over the hot coals! If you choose a child-friendly site, there may be play areas and equipment for them to use during the day, which is a great way to keep them entertained whilst you enjoy the fresh air. Alternatively, ask for a large pitch and take some games with you such as swing-ball and badminton. You can keep children of all ages entertained with nature walks, games of I-spy and scavenger hunts in the surrounding woodland. There are so many opportunities to get kids out and about and active, and you’ll have a great time making memories with the family!
