Self Catering Holidays For Hens
06 July 2011
As the summer months approach, many people are planning to get married and this means a lot of organisation, including venues, catering, transport and the hen party! If you’re a chief bridesmaid or maid of honour, then it will be your responsibility (generally in conjunction with the bride) to plan a hen party for a group of friends and some members of the family.
Self catering holidays can be a great option for hen dos – weekends away are very popular, but can get quite pricey if you intend to go on a couple of nights out, enjoy some spa treatments and have a celebratory dinner. Self catering holidays can be a great way to celebrate as a group, whilst still keeping costs relatively low. Large houses are a great option, and you can find some lovely places to stay around the country, often situated on farms or in the countryside. Self catering holidays give you the option to manage your own time, and you can fit in lots of activities during a weekend away. The beauty of self catering holidays is that you cook for yourself – so if you’re following a strict pre-wedding diet you can stay on track! Instead of spending money on a big night out, create a ‘hen do’ playlist and try your hand at cocktail making – buy a shaker and a book, and come up with the most exotic concoctions you can think of! (All tested by the bride to be, of course!) You could have a pamper evening with.
plenty of facemasks and nail polishes, and stock up on your favourite teenage films (Grease, Dirty Dancing and Footloose are guaranteed to get everyone singing along!).
If you fancy something more adventurous, then self catering holidays in the country are the perfect excuse to try new things. You could take the girls on a quad bike rally, get competitive at kart racing, or try your hand at paintballing! If you like to exercise, then consider a pony trek, hike, bike trek or aerial assault course. There is so much across the country that wherever you are you should be able to find something unique that will give you a weekend to remember!
Many brides want their family members to be present at their hen party, such as mothers and grandmothers. This can be tricky on a night out in the nearest town or city, but on self catering holidays it is easy for guests of differing tastes to come along for a day or night, and to get as involved as they wish.
Self catering holidays near the beach are also a great option and you could spend the day topping up your tans for the wedding, before enjoying a BBQ with some chilled beers! There are so many options for a hen weekend, but try to pick something that everyone can get involved in and enjoy on some level. Keeping costs down is also handy, so think of unusual ideas that you can achieve easily, without having to shell out hundreds of pounds.
