Family Activity Holidays – Keep The Kids Entertained!
21 July 2011
Holidays in Britain are very popular with families – particularly in the current economic climate. The UK has a wide range of holiday options for you to choose from, such as beach holidays, city breaks or woodland escapes. Travelling with children is much easier in the UK – you can load your car up with everything you need and stock up on story CDs and games (much easier and less stressful that long flights and hours in an airport!)
Holidays in Britain work well for families with children, and activity holidays can be a great way to try new things, push your boundaries, and bond as a family. Activity holidays in Britain can involve almost anything that takes your fancy – you could learn to dive, sail or windsurf on a beach holiday, or head inland to do a spot of walking, climbing and caving. What you choose to do will depend on the ages and abilities of your children. Some activities can be adapted to suit all ages, such as walking, swimming and fishing – even activities that require some skill can be adapted. If you take your children to try out some water sports for example, they will be able to participate in some way no matter what their age. Older children could learn to sail a small boat, whilst younger children can be passengers, or simply just bob about in the shallows with you – take plenty of inflatables!
Holidays in Britain can be easily adapted to suit your budget and needs, so before you go have a think about the kind of holiday you’d ideally like, and how far you are prepared to travel. Long car journeys with children can be tricky, so keep it short if you can – for under threes try and time your journey with their normal nap time. This way they’ll hopefully sleep through at least some of the journey, and wake up as you arrive at your destination! If you fancy a beach holiday, look at the coastline closest to you – see if you can find any holiday parks which may have organised activities, or look for campsites where you can pitch a tent and roast marshmallows over a camp fire – always a winner with kids! Alternatively you could book a cottage or flat near the beach, and take your own entertainment – buckets and spades are essential, but other good beach games could include Frisbee, rounders and bowling. Beachcombing is also a classic activity for children at the beach, and can keep little ones entertained for hours. Look online before you set off, and see if you can find any sheets to print out with questions or challenges on them for you to dish out at regular intervals.
Activity holidays in Britain are great for families with children – you can thoroughly wear the kids out whilst trying new things and staying active (playing an hour of Frisbee and rounders on the beach definitely equals a gym visit!) You can tailor your holiday to your personal specifications to get the best possible break for your family.
