Enjoy the Cotswolds during December
9 December 2011
There will be many bargain rural holiday opportunities during December, as long as you avoid Christmas and the New Year, where there will be a good range of self-catering cottages on offer. You can enjoy rural Britain from the warmth of a cosy cottage in the Cotswolds, ideally with an open log fire, at very competitive prices - especially if you make a late booking.
One of the most popular rural destinations in Britain is the Cotswolds. As well as the picturesque scenery for you to explore, there are the ‘chocolate box’ villages of Gloucestershire which will remind you of a by-gone era, as well as plenty of good walks in the Cotswolds. There is a good range of cottages in Gloucester and cottages in Cheltenham, which would make an ideal base for your visit to the Cotswolds.
If you are visiting with children, one of the best ways to find suitable accommodation combined with plenty of entertainment for your children, is to stay in a cottage on a working farm. Many of the farms in the Cotswolds provide self-catering accommodation as an additional income for themselves and this can be one of the most enjoyable ways to have a genuine farming experience without getting too messy! As well as the cottages in Gloucester and the cottages in Cheltenham there are plenty of farm cottages in Cirencester that will offer you such an experience.
During your visit to the Cotswolds, there will be various Christmas markets in the towns and villages across the region, but one of the most popular and most visited is the Cirencester Christmas Market. This Christmas market runs for a whole week and feature over 50 stalls. Our information section provides you with further information about the Cirencester Christmas Market.
If you would prefer to stay in a larger, perhaps more accessible town, you could stay in Salisbury. There is plenty of accommodation in Salisbury where you can explore the surrounding countryside, visit the beautiful Cathedral and enjoy the impressive Salisbury Cathedral carol service which is held on the Tuesday before Christmas.
