Dorset in the spring
11th February 2012
Now is a good time to think about an early break and to see a part of England in the full glory of an English Spring. Dorset is a West Country County that is bordered by Somerset to the North, Devon to the west and Wiltshire and Hampshire to the East.
A beautiful county that attracts many visitors during the summer holidays, Devon has enough charm to warrant a visit earlier in the year, especially in spring. There are many advantages to a visit during the spring; there are fewer tourists so the real character of the county can be enjoyed, the countryside is alive with bluebells in the woods, wild daffodils in the fields and a wealth of wild flowers in the hedgerows, and the pace of life is more natural without all those tourists. The price of accommodation is also a lot less than during the peak holiday period. The only thing you have to decide is how long you want to stay and what kind of accommodation suits you best. Should you go for a self catering cottage in Dorset or a bed & breakfast in Dorchester, the county town which is full of old world charm and ancient houses? The choice may depend on the type of visit you are planning.
For an extended stay of a week or more with your family in tow, a self catering property in Dorset countryside may be the best solution or a self catering apartment in Christchurch. For shorter stays, a bed & breakfast in Poole or any of the coastal towns may be more practical. The Dorset coast is also known as the Jurassic Coast due the fossils that can be found all along the beaches. Inland, in the New Forest bed and breakfast properties are a popular form of accommodation for weekend breaks in this lovely area. Further north in you will find many old hotels in Blandford Forum, an ancient Saxon town that oozes history and charm. It is also home to the Badger Brewery which produces many fine ales which can be sampled in the local pubs. Holiday accommodation in Dorset can be found in the form of Self catering apartments and Guest houses in Poole, a vibrant port on the south coast.
Whatever your requirements, a trip to this county in the spring is worth considering for an early break. Given the quietness of this period, you should be able to book your bed and breakfast in Dorset or your cottage in Dorchester without the need to book well in advance of your trip but do phone before you leave and make sure you reserve it for the period you want and enjoy spring in this lovely county.
