Devon a popular West Country destination

20 January 2012

On its east and western boundaries, Devon is landlocked by three of the other west country counties (Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset) but on its southern and northern boundaries its has some of the finest coastal beaches in the whole of Britain with the resorts of Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Tones and Dartmouth in the south and the towns of the English Riviera to the south east and along the Northern coast, resorts such as Woolacombe, Croyde, Ilfracombe and others are all popular destinations.

Inlandit has the most wonderful countryside and there are a range of lovely towns and ancient cities such as Exeter, the county town and Ottery St Mary built on a hill. The Devon countryside is one of rolling hills and hidden valleys, of small Devon farmhouse accommodation and lovely villages which are quite unspoilt, with stone, thatched cottages and ancient churches.

A range of bed and breakfasts in Devon cater for visitors to all parts of this county from the coastal areas to the wilds of Exmoor to the northeast of the county. As you would expect from such a popular tourist destination, there are a number of self catering cottages in Devon that cater for this market sector but there are also a number of Devon Hotels, especially in the coastal towns, that have made the holiday business their main income source. Tourism, especially in the summer holidays, is a crucial element for bed and breakfast in Devon and there are a large number of these in all parts of the county. However, there are not enough properties to cater for demand in the peak season.

Famous for its clotted cream teams and fudge, its beautiful beaches, picture postcard villages and rolling landscape, Devon is a county well worth considering for your holiday. But whether you want to look for a self catering cottage in Devon or at a Devon bed and breakfast, please do make sure you book your preferred property as early as possible as they do book up fast for the peak season and you should make sure you select your property and reserve it as soon as you can to make sure you get accommodation for your holiday in Devon.
