An off season break in the Lake District
5 January 2012
The Lake District of England is on of the most beautiful places in the British Isles and for that reason is visited by many thousands of tourists during the summer period. To experience the true tranquillity of the mountains and lakes is no longer as easy as it was and a trip to the region during the early months of the year may be the only way to recapture this sense of isolation. True, the weather may be more unpredictable, with Atlantic gales sweeping in from the west but the stormy weather adds to the true sense of the wildness of this place.
To enjoy the Lake District at this time of year, rent a Holiday cottage in Kendal or stay in a hotel in Windemere. During the off peak season the rates will be very affordable and good value. A bed and breakfast in Keswick may be a good alternative and there are many to choose from, all of them keen to have your custom at this time of the year. You will be able to have the choice of accommodation in the Lake District.
The Lake District is not just the lakes and mountains on the west side. There are lakes right across the region almost to the sea and then there is the coastal landscape which is also stunning and isolated. Stay in a cottage in Morecambe Bay or in a bed and breakfast in Whitehaven with its coastal walks and wonderful views. Miles of golden sands attract visitors during the summer but in the early months, the area abounds with flocks of birds over wintering in the bays and coves.
The Lake District at this time of year is a very different place to that enjoyed by the summer visitors and may not be for everyone. But if you have a need for tranquil isolation and wish to see the region at its most natural, then this is worth a visit. Make sure you find the accommodation in Cumbria to meet your needs before you travel, so call the owner and Reserve it in advance.
