Birmingham International Airport

The Birmingham International Airport is the United Kingdom’s sixth busiest airport and is located 6 miles to the southeast of Birmingham. It handles over 9 million passengers a year and the major destination hub for a number of major airlines.

The airport was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1984. The airport facilities were redeveloped in 2000 at a cost of £40 million. The two terminals are linked by an AirRail link to the station at Birmingham International Exchange.

Major airlines are Ryanair, Bmibaby, Flybe, Monarch and Thompson. The airport is served by road via junction 6 on the M42, bus services operate via the National Express bus 900 from Coventry or Birmingham City Centre. The main rail link is Birmingham International Exchange Station from which the free AirRail link operates to the terminals. The airport is operated by Birmingham International Airport Ltd.
