Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport is located to the southwest of Manchester, almost 9 miles from the city centre. It handles nearly 19 million passengers a year and is the busiest UK airport outside of the London area.

It was open in 1938 as Ringway Airport but was renamed Manchester International Airport in 1975. It became Manchester Airport in 1987. It has 2 runways and three passenger terminals (1,2 and 3).

It handles flights to worldwide destinations by over 80 airlines, the principal ones being Flybe, EasyJet, Bmibaby, BMI, Monarch, Thompson, Jet2.com, Thomas Cook. The transport infrastructure is very good with road access via M56 motorway, trains via Manchester Airport Railway Station, busses with a 24 hour Skyline Service and National Express. The airport is owned and managed by a consortium of the ten borough councils of Greater Manchester as the Manchester Airports Group.
