London Stansted Airport
Located near the village of Stansted Mountfitchet in Essex, Stansted Airport is on the five airports that serve the City of London. It is the 3rd busiest airport in the United Kingdom and handles 20 million passengers every year with flight to all parts of Europe, Turkey and the middle east.
Opened in 1997, it has a single runway and a modern terminal building with four satellite buildings which hold the flight departure gates. Three of the buildings are reached by a transit train system and the fourth by a walkway.
The airport is the base for Ryanair which flies from Stansted to over 100 destinations. Other major airlines are EasyJet, Monarch Airlines, Thomas Cook and Thompson airlines.
Road access is from the M11 motorway and the A120. Regular bus services run from a range of locations, including from London Victoria Coach Station and Liverpool Street Station. Train services run to Stansted Airport Railway Station with services from Leicester, Cambridge, London. The airport is owned by BAA and operated by Stansted Airport Ltd.
